Making History – Proud Women in HVAC

DID YOU KNOW…  Women’s History In HVAC

Female HVAC technicians only make up around 9% of the HVAC workforce, according to a recent report. On top of that, the HVAC industry overall is forecast to have a labor deficit of more than 115,000 individuals.

With HVAC job prospects growing at an all-time high and the need for diversity within the field, it presents an incredible opportunity for more women to enter into and grow within the industry.

While historically HVAC has been a male-dominated industry, at Technical Hot & Cold we are proud to be on the forefront closing that gap since the day we opened our doors.

Making Women’s History at THC

Our History

In celebration of National Women's History Month, we are proud to honor the incredible women who have helped shape the growth of Technical Hot and Cold. Founded in 1991 by Cam and Tracy Freeman, THC is proud to be a woman owned business, certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council – the gold standard for women owned business in the U.S.

Tracy and Cam combined their talents and experience in accounting, bookkeeping, maintenance, and HVAC to build and grow their family-owned heating and cooling business. What began as just a small business out of their home in Novi, MI, has now grown to a 40+ person team located in Westland, MI, serving customers both locally and globally!

Since Day 1, Technical Hot & Cold has been a team comprised of both men and women amongst our office and parts staff, but in recent years we’ve been excited to also diversify our technician team and welcome some amazing women on board, specializing in both residential and commercial service and installation.

The Future of Women in HVAC

As opportunities for all genders, and especially women, continue to grow within this field, we are passionate about doing our part to welcome and guide new talent. For years we have worked with local trade schools to offer opportunities for advancement and continued, hands-on training for graduates. It’s through these partnerships that we were able to gain some of the talented women on our team, as well as continue to create opportunities for more women to make their way in HVAC.

We are proud that our team has always been and continues to support and advocate for women's advancement in a largely male-dominated business. Because of the hard-working women of THC, and the expertise they have brought to our team whether in the field, in our Parts Office, serving customers, scheduling our team, or running our business, we’re proud to say this is just the beginning.
